Phalodi, Rajasthan – A disturbing video has emerged showing the fatal shooting of popular Instagram influencer Anamika Bishnoi, 29, by her husband in broad daylight in Phalodi, Rajasthan according to police statements.
The chilling security camera footage, which has now gone viral across social media platforms, shows the victim walking down a busy market street on Monday afternoon. Suddenly, her husband, Gaurav Rajput, is seen approaching her from behind brandishing a handgun, as reported by eyewitnesses. Despite Anamika’s attempt to flee as visible in the video, Rajput shoots her at point-blank range before escaping the scene in his car.
Emergency medical services rushed Anamika to a nearby hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival from the gunshot wound, hospital authorities confirmed. Rajput remains at large as of Tuesday morning and police have launched a manhunt to apprehend him, said local law enforcement officials.
Anamika Bishnoi was a fashion model and rising Instagram star with over 50,000 followers, according to her social media pages. Just last week she had posted about feeling unsafe in her marriage on her Instagram stories. The brazen public execution has sent shockwaves across her fanbase and the country, sparking outrage on social media.
State authorities have condemned the killing saying “Such heinous crimes will not be tolerated on our streets. We will ensure the perpetrator faces swift justice,” in their official statement. Women’s rights activists have called for protests against the lack of adequate protection for victims of domestic violence to local media outlets.
The viral video has renewed debate around safety of women and better implementation of harassment laws across news channels and public forums. As the investigation unfolds, all eyes remain on the police to capture the accused Gaurav Rajput who continues to be at large per police reports.
