New Delhi – Popular food delivery platform Zomato has come under fire after a Customer sues Zomato Legends Service. A customer, Sourav Mall, in Gurugram filed a lawsuit questioning the company’s “Legends” service.
Sourav Mall, 24, used Zomato’s premium “Legends” service to order food from iconic restaurants in different cities. One of the dishes he ordered was a “Galouti Kebab” from a famous restaurant in Lucknow. According to Zomato, the food is delivered “freshly prepared” using “mobile refrigeration technology” to maintain quality. However, Mall claims his order arrived in just 30 minutes, making him skeptical about the freshness and origins of the food.
Mall has filed a case against Zomato urging the court to stop the company from offering the “Legends” service, alleging it misleads consumers. His lawyers stated that the unusually fast delivery times and Zomato packaging raised doubts. Tests by The Indian Express also found orders from Jaipur were delivered much faster than Zomato’s own claims of next-day delivery.
This is not the first complaint about Zomato’s intercity food delivery services. Last September, a customer in Gurugram claimed he received only a salan (gravy) after ordering a biryani from Hyderabad. Zomato stated it was an “anomaly” but experts worry the rapid transport affects food quality.
Zomato has heavily marketed the “Legends” service as a pioneering offering that uses its network and technology to deliver “legendary dishes from across India.” However, the recent backlash has put the reliability and transparency of these claims under scrutiny. As the case proceeds in court, the outcome could impact Zomato’s premium intercity delivery model.
