In a recent revelation, the spotlight has shifted to Hyderabad’s dynamic fusion rock ensemble, “Threeory,” following the release of their captivating cameo in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s latest cinematic venture, ‘Animal.’ The scene, featuring the charismatic Ranbir Kapoor’s entry, boasts a spellbinding fusion of AR Rahman’s timeless Roja melodies, creating ripples across both audiences and the digital realm.
Founded as a trio in 2013, “Threeory” has since expanded into a formidable nine-member collective, weaving a tapestry of rock intertwined with the essence of Telugu and South Indian music. The lineup includes Mark Talur on keys, Datta Sai Prasa on the violin, Tarun Vishal on drums, Imtiakum on bass, Sentilong Ao on guitar, Syntyche Mongro as the female vocalist, Akhileshwar Chennu as the male vocalist, Irfan Ahmed Khan on the sitar, and Pavan Kumar MS on tabla.
Speaking to “Telangana Today”, Tarun Vishal, the percussionist, sheds light on their distinctive musical style, explaining, “Progressive rock is a sophisticated composition technique that melds rock with the rich tapestry of cultural and traditional Indian music. It stands as a subgenre that empowers artists to craft unique interpretations. When applied to Roja’s melodies, progressive rock injects a contemporary flair while preserving the inherent beauty.”
The unexpected journey of “Threeory” into the cinematic realm commenced six years ago when they graced the stage at the audio launch of ‘Arjun Reddy.’ Impressed by their musical prowess, Sandeep Reddy Vanga stumbled upon their YouTube videos, ultimately leading to a visionary recreation of one such performance in ‘Animal.’
Recalling their rendezvous with the ‘Animal’ team, Sai Prasa reminisces, “When Vanga reached out to us for a shoot in Mumbai, the movie’s details remained a mystery. Rushing to the location, our introduction to Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna left us in awe, especially when Ranbir graciously introduced himself.”
The band’s euphoric two-day shoot marked a surreal experience, a dream realized for the ensemble. While maintaining a regular presence at Hyderabad’s pubs and events, “Threeory” remains receptive to unforeseen opportunities. Recognized for their reinterpretations of classics like “Roja” and “Game of Thrones,” the band eagerly anticipates the unveiling of their original compositions scheduled for release next year.
With a musical signature that fuses diverse genres, and their recent success in ‘Animal,’ “Threeory” stands poised for an exciting journey ahead, continuing to enthrall audiences with their distinct sonic tapestry.
