In a bid to enhance the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system and alleviate traffic congestion at toll plazas, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has rolled out the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative. This initiative aims to discourage the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a single vehicle.
As per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, FASTag users are urged to complete the ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) process for their latest FASTag. NHAI emphasizes the importance of adhering to this process, and FASTags with incomplete KYC will be deactivated after January 31. Users are advised to dispose of old FASTags through their banks, ensuring that only the latest FASTag accounts remain active.
To facilitate a smooth KYC update, users can contact toll plazas or utilize the toll-free customer care number provided by their issuer banks. The KYC process is crucial for secure transactions and involves providing documents such as a valid Passport, Driving License, Voter’s ID, PAN card, Aadhaar, or a work card from NREGA signed by a State Government official. Additionally, users must include a copy of their vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC) along with the KYC documents.
For those seeking to update KYC through their banks, the process is straightforward:
- Visit the nearest bank branch that issued your FASTag.
- Request a KYC update form.
- Fill out the form with the updated details.
- Submit the form to the bank.
Users can also contact their relationship manager for further assistance. Those transitioning from non-KYC to full-KYC customers can follow these steps:
- Visit the IHMCL FASTag portal (https://fastag.ihmcl.com/?LGCode=MKTG&icid=learning-centre).
- Log in with your registered mobile number and password or OTP.
- Select ‘My Profile’ from the dashboard menu.
- Click on ‘KYC’ and choose ‘Customer Type’.
- Complete the required fields and provide identification and address proof documents.
- The KYC will be processed within 7 working days from the submission date.
Important considerations for NHAI FASTag users:
- NHAI FASTags can be purchased at toll plazas, petrol pumps, or online.
- After acquiring the FASTag, users can initiate the procedure of linking their bank account to the associated prepaid wallet.
- Toll amounts depend on the vehicle class and the toll plaza used.
- Compliance with KYC regulations is mandatory for all users.
NHAI’s ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative, coupled with proper KYC compliance, aims to streamline toll collection processes and contribute to a more efficient and hassle-free travel experience on national highways.
